A Day with a Globetrotter

Many times for my job I get to escort a performer or athlete to the various media outlets in Green Bay or the Valley. In the last week, I had the pleasure of escorting Harlem Globetrotters player Anthony Blakes. He was in town to do advance publicity work for the Globetrotters appearance at the Resch Center on Thursday, December 28. Most of the people I deal with are very nice, but Anthony is awesome. Our day started around 5:30 a.m. I picked him up to do TV and radio appearances between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. We squeezed in breakfast and then it was off to tape a short TV segment for a station in Texas. He taped it here and the station sent it overnight to the station in Texas. Next it was off to a school appearance at Assumption BVM in Pulaski. Anthony is a master at chatting with kids one on one or as a whole during a school assembly. He did not disappoint the Pulaski kids and is the perfect Ambassador for the Globetrotters. Our day wrapped up with an appearance at a De Pere grocery store, where once again, Anthony was on the mark with the crowd doing ball tricks and signing autographs.

It is refreshing to see and be with someone who clearly "gets it" and is appreciative of his success. Every person he meets gets treated the same. It is one of the reasons the Globetrotters have been successful for 81 years! They continue to provide awesome family entertainment and you would do yourself a favor if you checked them out at the Resch on December 28. At the end of the day, he presented me with the largest Hershey candy bar in the world (at least one of the largest). It was 5 pounds and loaded with 11,000 tasty calories. A big hit with all of the gals at the Resch Center and PMI (a lot of guys too!).

In addition to the Globetrotters, UWGB has its Oneida Classic basketball tournament Dec. 27-30 (with the Globetrotters sandwiched in between). Happy Holidays to all and see you in the seats!
